Soptlight: Advance Options of Get Codes

Each month, we identify a feature or set of features of Live2Support that we believe puts us ahead of the crowd and helps us to leave our competition far behind. This month’s focus is centered on the “Get Code” feature of Live2Support. This is, in fact, more of a function than a feature since it enables you to generate code in order to execute specific functions. The code you generate is pasted within your HTML page and becomes a part of your web page’s overall HTML code.

Get Code Function with Multiple Options
The "Get Code" function, which generates the HTML code for your web pages, is now available to you with several enhanced options. It has been updated and has more option codes for many different types of requirements. You should visit the Get Codes page on the Live2Support website for more information for a comprehensive discussion of the various options and selections that are now available to you. You need to be logged into the website  using your account information in order to access this page. We have provided a brief overview here.

Selecting the Department in which to Enable Live Chat
If you have enabled the “department” option in order to activate live chat for that particular department and if you wish to display a status graphic of a particular department on the page and would like chat requests to be directly transfer to that department,  you could select the appropriate department by customizing the codes.

Add Tracking Variables : Passing custom variable or your own tracking information:

Live2Support provides option for passing custom information variable from your web pages to Live2Support. You can pass custom identification information, order information related to this customer or any other information you want to pass from your web page to Live2Support. This information will be available to you in visitor monitoring window and in support operator chat window.  Using this feature many customer specific information can be immediately available to support operator as soon as he or she picks chat.

The process of passing this information is simple

  1. Login in Live2Support Control Panel
  2. Click on “Get Codes to Insert in Your WebPages”
  3. On this page click on “Click Here to open Advance Option Area”, this will expand Advance Code Area.
  4. Then click on “Click Here to Add Tracking Variables”
  5. This will open new window here you can add as many as variable information you want to pass.

For example, you can pass customer name, order no. and city

In 1st box in “Add a Custom Variables & Values” window you can type “Customer Name” and in second box you can type the name of customer or the name of variable (if you are using PHP <?=$sVariable; ?> or if you are using ASP <%=$ sVariable %>, same way for any other language your are using in your web page) you will be using in your web pages to substitute  value. This way you can pass any number of variable information.

  1. Once you added all require variable then click on "Done" and “Add a Custom Variables & Values” window will close.
  2. Click on “Get Code” button now, copy all code, and paste them in your web pages.

The following will be additional codes in your Live2Support codes :

var l2s_cv='cname=<?=$custname;?>;l2scv;caddress=<?=$custadd;?>;l2scv;ccity=<?=$city;?>';

In this case, your web page must substitute information correctly for your own php variables : $custname, $custadd, $city.

Customizing the Language in the Visitor window
 If you happen to have created a multiple language profile for your visitor chat window, then select the appropriate language profile to activate by customizing these codes.

Page-specific Chat Invitation
Using this feature, you can automatically open chat invitation from some of your specific web pages of your web site ( if you do not want to enable auto chat invitation in all web pages of your web site).

To setup auto chat invitation on specific pages :

  1. Login in Live2Support "Control Panel"
  2. Click on “Get Codes to Insert in Your WebPages”
  3. On this page click on “Click Here to open Advance Option Area”, this will expand advance code area.

Select “Yes” from “Open Chat Invitation” drop down menu.

Then select Invitation Placement in your web page. Specify time delay after which auto chat invitation should open. Select the Type of invitation you want to open (Open directly chat window along with invitation graphic/message or open small moving invitation graphic on your web page)

Then click on “Get Code” button the get codes now and copy all codes and paste them in only those web pages where you want to open automatically chat invitation.

Multiple Location Chat Invitations
It is now possible for you to provide chance to your site visitors to chat from multiple locations from within the same web page on your site. You can use this feature from the “Get Codes page” and generate the right set of codes to invoke live chat from more than one location on a single web page.

Conclusion

The “Get Code” function might seem intimidating in the beginning. However, it is extremely easy to activate and deploy. As long as you are able to generate the right code for the right function, pasting this code on the pertinent web page should not be difficult.
